Informations about our Centre

The Medical Simulation Centre in Zabrze is a unit of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. It was established and equipped largely thanks to the project entitled “Medical Simulation Centre of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice – a response to the needs of contemporary medical education”, co-financed by the European Social Fund under the Knowledge Education Development Operational Programme, as well as from earmarked subsidies, including the budget of the city of Zabrze.

The Centre is located in a renovated, historic building in the centre of Zabrze, which used to house the Academic Centre of Dentistry of the Medical University of Silesia. The facility has been thoroughly modernised and equipped with the latest medical, training and IT equipment, which enables conducting classes at the highest level for students of medical faculties.

The Centre has eight high-fidelity simulation rooms, including:

  • operating room
  • hospital emergency department
  • intensive care unit
  • delivery room
  • pediatric room
  • pre-hospital simulation zone

These rooms use advanced patient simulators – full-body, of different ages – and modern medical equipment. The simulators can reproduce disease symptoms, respond to procedures and dynamically change vital parameters. Students can conduct tests, diagnoses and treat patients in real time, tracking the effects of their clinical decisions.

The pre-hospital simulation zone includes a fully equipped ambulance, compliant with the Specialist Medical Rescue Team standard, which allows for the implementation of advanced medical scenarios in conditions simulating the work of rescue teams.

All simulation scenarios can be recorded in the form of audio-video materials. In combination with the recorded patient parameters, these recordings are used during debriefing sessions conducted in specially prepared rooms.

Two dental rooms have been prepared for students of the medical and dental faculty:

  • phantom room
  • clinical room

A total of over 50 dental units have been installed, enabling individual learning using phantoms and the latest equipment. Each station is equipped with an LCD monitor, which allows the lecturer to present tasks and procedures in real time.

The Centre also has two multimedia labs with access to:

  • e-learning platform
  • specialised software (Osirix)

These labs are also adapted to conduct exams in electronic form.

Students also have at their disposal:

  • 5 practice rooms for learning technical skills using phantoms and trainers
  • a lecture room for 114 people, equipped with modern multimedia systems
