On April 3, 2025, another edition of SUM Wars took place at CDiSM. Five five-person teams of students from our University took part in the competition. The participants had to complete 6 varied and realistic simulation tasks:
- A call to a 53-year-old patient who had a serious accident at a construction site near a ventilation system located in a dark basement.
- A planned left hemicolectomy procedure for a 64-year-old patient – during the procedure, it is necessary to change the anesthetic team and complications occur that threaten the patient’s life.
- Help for a palliative patient admitted to the emergency room due to severe shortness of breath.
- A report to the ER of a 65-year-old patient who had full-blown pulmonary edema in the course of ACS.
- Evaluation of radiological images.
- An extremely demanding situational conversation with a so-called difficult patient.
These diverse challenges triggered many emotions in the participants. The fight for victory in SUM Wars was extremely fierce and lasted until the last minute.
The first place was taken by the team “Dochtorzy 2.0” consisting of: b.
The second place was taken by the team “AZZID” consisting of Maciej Lewandowski, Aleksandra Wiatr, Magdalena Mąka, Grzegorz Zaborowski, Justyna Janakiewicz.
The podium was closed by the team “Wstrząśnięci niemieszani” consisting of Katarzyna Szlachetka, Iga Machała, Julia Łaciak, Maciej Łydka, Natalia Libudzic.

The winning team “Dochtorzy 2.0” will represent the Medical University of Silesia at the national SIMChallenge 2025 competition, which will take place on June 3, 2025 at the Center for Medical Education and Simulation in Katowice. We are keeping our fingers crossed!
